Builders

TigerBoard panels are designed for roof and wall sheathing in residential and commercial wood-frame construction.

TigerBoard is an oriented structural straw board (OSSB), engineered for strength and made from agricultural waste wheat straw with formaldehyde-free (MDI) resin binders.

TigerBoard will have an Exposure 1 bond durability classification, and be Structural-1 rated. It will be available in 4’ x 8’ panels and manufactured to 7/16” thickness with a 24/16 span rating.

The panels will be manufactured in conformance with the PS 2-04 structural standard, in addition to a series of panel durability tests prescribed in AC307, ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for OSSB. TigerBoard will be certified by TECO, a qualified third-party inspection and testing agency, recognized by the model building codes.

TigerBoard will provide improved value and performance over similarly rated OSB and plywood, while maintaining the structural integrity and functionality of its wood-based counterparts:

  • TigerBoard will be cost-competitive with comparable wood-based alternatives.
  • Its engineering and the natural attributes of wheat straw make TigerBoard stronger yet lighter, with improved dimensional stability, and more water-, fire-, rot- and termite-resistant than wood-based alternatives.
  • Additionally, TigerBoard will be manufactured with enhancements for faster and safer installation:
    • Two-way nail lines for easier and faster installation
    • Textured for safety
  • TigerBoard will be comparable to wood-based alternatives in terms of field performance, usability and wear on tools.
  • TigerBoard will be edge sealed for additional moisture protection.

TigerBoard will provide builders with an opportunity to differentiate themselves by responding to the consumer demand for sustainable building materials and practices:

  • TigerBoard is a tree-free and sustainable building material that conserves our forests, poses no off-gassing risks, and provides a solution to an agricultural waste disposal problem.
  • TigerBoard will help builders meet criteria for residential green building programs, including the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system:
    • Material & Resources credit (rapidly renewable materials)
    • Indoor Environmental Quality credit (low-emitting materials)

TigerBoard will be backed by a 50-year warranty.
